摘要：A nucleic acid (I) that encodes a protein or polypeptide (II) with creatinine

deiminase activity comprising: (a) a fully defined 1593 nucleotide sequence (S1), given inthe specification, or its fragment or derivative; (b) a sequence that hybridizes to (a) and/orhas at least 50% homology with it; or (c) a degenerate variant of (a) or (b), is new.Independent claims are also included for: (1) a nucleic acid (Ia) that is complementary to(I); (2) recombinant DNA (Ib) that includes (I) or (Ia); (3) a host cell containing (Ib); (4) (II)that is encoded by (I) or has creatinine deiminase activity and comprises a fully defined406 amino acid sequence (S2), given in the specification, or its fragment or derivative; (5)an antibody (Ab), preferably monoclonal, that reacts specifically with (II); (6) preparationof (II) by expressing (I); (7) determining the concentration of creatinine in a sample byreaction with (II) and measuring the amount of ammonia formed; and (8) a kit for themethod of (7) containing (I), the cells of (3) or (II).
